Murray McDavid

Strathclyde 37 Years Old Mission Gold

ABV: 44.9% 70 cL

This single grain was distilled in 1987 at the Strathclyde Distillery in the heart of Glasgow. It was matured for 34 years in two refill bourbon hogsheads before re-racking into two 2nd fill Pedro Ximenez Sherry Casks, which previously held a peated malt, for the final 3 years. This unique maturation produced notes of sweet vanilla, toasted cereal, and fruit, with a hint of smoke.

Bottled at natural cask strength, without chill-filtration or artificial colouring by Murray McDavid for their Misson Gold Collection.

Nose

Creamy fudge, toffee and sweet vanilla.

Palate

Toasted cereal, spice and fruit crumble.

Finish

Wisp of smoke, caramel and liquorice.

Strathclyde, built in 1927 on the south bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, is a large grain distillery dedicated to producing light, clean spirit for blended Scotch. Using continuous column stills, it creates a smooth, neutral grain whisky that forms the backbone of many well-known blends. Although rarely bottled as a single grain, independent releases show a gentle style with notes of vanilla, soft fruit, and light caramel. Industrial in scale and quietly essential, Strathclyde remains one of Scotland’s key grain whisky producers.
