Springbank 21 Years Old Private Cellars Selection

ABV: 46.1% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled at the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula, in Scotland’s Campbeltown whisky region. Springbank is much loved for its complex, characterful spirit: gently peated, rich and oily, with a distinctive maritime edge.

This bottling comes from independent bottler The Whisky Cellar as part of their Private Cellars Selection, a range of carefully chosen single casks. After a long maturation, the whisky was given a finishing period in a Madeira wine cask, before being bottled from single cask #767.

Madeira is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of the same name, out in the Atlantic. It is famously aged in warm conditions, which slowly caramelises and concentrates the wine. This gives it a rich, nutty sweetness balanced by lively acidity, and Madeira casks are prized for adding depth and richness to a whisky.

Two decades in the cask give Springbank’s spirit remarkable depth and maturity. The Madeira finish then layers on warmth and sweetness, while the distillery’s coastal character still shines through. The result is a rich, elegant and beautifully balanced dram.

Aged for 21 years and bottled from single cask #767, this single malt is presented at natural cask strength, without chill-filtration or artificial colouring.

Springbank Distillery, founded in 1828 in Campbeltown on Scotland’s Kintyre peninsula, is celebrated as one of the most traditional and hands-on whisky makers left in Scotland. It’s one of the very few distilleries that carries out every stage of production on site, including floor malting, distillation, maturation, and bottling. Springbank produces three distinct single malts — Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn — each with its own style, from lightly smoky to heavily peated to triple-distilled. The spirit is known for its oily texture, coastal character, and complex mix of brine, spice, malt richness, and gentle smoke, shaped by slow fermentation, unusual partial triple distillation, and maturation in a variety of casks. With its cult following, small output, and fiercely traditional methods, Springbank stands as a benchmark for old-school, characterful Scotch whisky.
