The cocktail was created in the 1920s Paris by an American called Erskine Gwynne, publisher of the Boulevardier magazine.
The cocktail solidified its place in cocktail history in a book called Barflies and Cocktails, written by Harry MacElhone, owner of the legendary Harry’s Bar in Paris. Whitebos has made great effort to pay homage to the classic recipe, with a careful balance of the three ingredients: whiskey, vermouth and Italian Bitter Aperitif.
