Cane and Grain

Port Dundas 19 Years Old Private Reserve

ABV: 59.2% 70 cL

This single grain whisky was distilled on the 29th of March 2006 at the Port Dundas Distillery in Glasgow, in Scotland's Lowland region. Now a silent distillery, Port Dundas produced a light, sweet and smooth grain spirit, making single casks like this one increasingly hard to find.

It was selected by Cane and Grain for their Private Reserve collection, a range of elusive single casks from across Scotland's whisky regions, each given a secondary maturation in a carefully chosen first-fill cask. This cask was re-racked on the 22nd of September 2021 into a single first-fill Madeira barrique, where it spent an extended period of over 3 years.

The gentle, sweet grain spirit and the rich Madeira cask create a lovely contrast of light and dark. Cane and Grain describe the grain influence as lightly intertwining with a deep finish - an exquisite single grain single cask.

Aged 19 years and drawn from cask number 3424, it is presented at natural cask strength of 59.2% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration. Limited to just 299 bottles.

Port Dundas, founded in the early 1800s on the Forth & Clyde Canal in Glasgow, was once one of Scotland’s largest and most important grain distilleries. It became a major engine of blended Scotch production, using column stills to create a light, clean, versatile grain spirit. Over nearly two centuries it expanded, merged with neighbouring distilleries, and supplied whisky to many of Scotland’s biggest brands. Port Dundas closed in 2010, but its remaining aged stocks are still released occasionally, often showing a gentle, sweet style with notes of vanilla, grain, soft fruit, and delicate spice — a quiet reminder of one of Glasgow’s historic whisky giants.
