Woodrow's of Edinburgh

Mortlach 12 Years Old Warehouse Reserve

ABV: 55.1% 70 cL

This single malt was filled into cask on the very last day of 2013 at Mortlach, in Dufftown in the heart of Speyside. Mortlach is famous for its bold, rich and meaty spirit, which has earned it the nickname 'the Beast of Dufftown', and it's a style that loves a good sherry cask.

It comes from Woodrow's of Edinburgh as part of their Warehouse Reserve range, in the Curators' Cut Edition. The spirit spent most of its life quietly maturing in a refill hogshead, which lets that big Mortlach character take centre stage without the wood taking over. It was then moved into a single first fill American oak Oloroso sherry hogshead for its finish.

Put together, you get the best of both: that weighty, oily Mortlach spirit wrapped in rich sherried fruit, nuts and warming spice. It's a big, generous dram that rewards taking your time with it.

Aged 12 years and bottled on 21st October 2026 from cask no. 55027, it's bottled at 55.1% ABV with natural colour and no chill filtration. Only 294 bottles were filled.

Mortlach whisky is renowned for its rich, powerful, and meaty flavour — a bold and complex style that sets it apart from other Speyside malts. Thanks to its unique 2.81-times distillation process, the spirit develops a dense, oily texture with deep layers of character. The aroma typically reveals roasted malt, dark chocolate, dried fruit, and subtle spice, while the palate delivers an umami-rich profile with notes of toffee, sherried sweetness, and hints of beef stock. The finish is long, warm, and slightly smoky, leaving traces of oak and dried fruit. This intense and savoury profile has earned Mortlach its famous nickname, “The Beast of Dufftown.”
