Glenallachie Distillery
ABV: 50% 70 cL
The Turbo 2026 Edition is a peated single malt from The GlenAllachie Distillery, which sits near the village of Aberlour in the heart of Speyside. Under the Meikle Tòir name – Gaelic for 'big pursuit' – the distillery turns its full-bodied, characterful spirit towards peat smoke, and The Turbo is the most intensely smoky expression in the range.
Guided by Master Distiller Billy Walker, the team made this whisky using mainland peat and a long fermentation, which helps build a fuller-bodied spirit. Rather than taking the usual spirit cut, The Turbo uses 'the heart of the heart' – the narrowest part of the run, where the phenol content is at its highest. For the 2026 Edition, that spirit was matured in a combination of American virgin oak, Oloroso Sherry casks and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.
Each cask type brings something different. American virgin oak has never held another liquid, so the fresh wood gives up its sugars, vanilla and spice far more readily than a refill cask. Oloroso is a dry, rich sherry from Jerez in southern Spain, aged oxidatively, so it takes on deep, nutty, dried-fruit character, which it passes on to the wood. Pedro Ximénez is the sweetest of all sherries, made from grapes dried in the sun until they are almost raisins, and its casks lend a dense, syrupy richness.
Bringing these casks together with such a heavily peated spirit creates a whisky with real weight: the sherry and virgin oak give a sweet, rich backbone for the smoke to sit against. GlenAllachie describe the result as having an unmistakably powerful peat influence, with the spirit reaching a robust 71 PPM.
The Turbo 2026 Edition is aged 5 years and bottled at 50% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration.
