Knocckdhu Distillery was founded in 1894 by John Morrison on behalf of Distiller's Company Limited - the first distillery built by the company. It was built just outside of the village of Knock. The site was chosen due to the proximity of railway lines, nearby barley fields and availability of peat. The distillery faced a few closures throughout its life, with the last lasting from 1988 to 1989.
The first official Knockdhu single malt was released in 1990, followed closely by Acnoc brand released in 1992.
