Harris is a community distillery that works closely with people and businesses on the Island. The idea to open a distillery in Harris was sparked to combat the declining population, create opportunities for young people, and bring tourism to the Island. The construction began in the spring of 2014, and the distillery opened its doors a year later. They became famous for their sugar kelp gin, known for its unique flavour and beautiful bottle design, while awaiting their first single malt whisky. In 2023, the long wait was over, and their first single malt was released. Named Hearach, which is a name for someone living on the Island, the whisky was a lightly peated malt with bourbon and sherry cask influences.
