Blind Summit

Glen Elgin 11 Years Old

ABV: 56.7% 50 cL

A single cask of Glen Elgin was distilled on the 9th of March 2015, showing classic honeyed Speyside, waxy orchard fruit from its first ten years in a bourbon hogshead. Re-racked for one year into a Napa Valley Chardonnay barrique, where it took on layers of almond, yellow fruit and ginger.

Bottled by Blind Summit at natural colour and no chill filtration.

Nose

Peach Campinos, dried mirabelle plum, apricot and white grape must. Almond croissant, icing and amaretti. Instantly inviting.

Palate

Prickly at full strength but creamy with it, almost lees-y. Lemon curd, peach, pear and fleshy yellow fruit, with chamomile honey. Toasty almond kernel and frangipane, buttery with nutmeg.

Finish

Long, with brown sugar almond cake, juicy plums and ginger spice at the end.

Glen Elgin Distillery was founded in 1898, making it one of the last—if not the last—distilleries established during Scotland’s whisky boom of the late 19th century. As whisky sales declined in the early 20th century, Glen Elgin experienced several closures and changes in ownership. In 1929, it became part of the Distillers Company Limited (DCL), which later evolved into what is now Diageo.
Renowned for its fruity and complex character, Glen Elgin single malt is a favourite among both blenders and independent bottlers. Though often found in blends, its unique profile shines as a single malt, offering a classic example of Speyside elegance.
