Alistair Walker

Girvan 27 Years Old Infrequent Flyers

ABV: 55.6% 70 cL

This single grain whisky from Girvan Distillery in the Lowland region of Scotland was distilled in 1997 and aged for 27 years, spending the last maturation period in Tawny Port hogshead.

It was bottled by Alistair Walker for his Infrequent Flyers collection at natural cask strength, wihtout chill-filtrationo or artificial colouring.

Nose

Very nutty - toasted coconut, roasted peanuts - and rich marzipan. Unmistakeably a mature single grain whisky.

Palate

The grain whisky brings molten Demerara sugar and coconut toasties, whilst the port cask weighs in with stewed apricots, raisins, and a some tingly nutmeg. Some nice wood for this whisky to spend its latter years in.

Girvan Distillery was founded in 1963 by William Grant & Sons to produce grain whisky for their blends. The decision came after a dispute with Distillers Company Limited threatened their grain supply. Remarkably, the distillery was built in just nine months and was one of the most technologically advanced in Scotland at the time. Today, Girvan’s whisky continues to be a key component in Grant’s blends, as well as in other blends and single grain whisky bottlings.
