Gleann Mòr Spirits

Deanston 34 Years Old Rare Find

ABV: 48.8% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled in 1991 at Deanston Distillery, on the banks of the River Teith near Doune in the southern Highlands of Scotland. Deanston is known for a honeyed, waxy and fruity spirit with plenty of body.

It has been bottled by Gleann Mòr Spirits as part of The Long Game, a trio of exceptionally old single casks from their Rare Find range, spanning 34 to 38 years of maturation. This Deanston was drawn from a 2nd fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butt, allowing the distillery character to develop over more than three decades.

Pedro Ximénez, or PX, is the sweetest style of sherry, made in southern Spain from grapes that are dried in the sun before pressing to concentrate their sugars. As a second fill cask, it has already been used once for whisky, so its sherry influence is softer and works alongside the spirit rather than over it.

Decades in cask have given this whisky real depth and refinement, and Gleann Mòr note that the PX butt has added layers of rich dried fruit, dark sweetness and gentle spice that complement the spirit's natural character.

Aged 34 years, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2026 from cask #001. Bottled at natural colour and no chill filtration. Only 72 bottles were produced.

Deanston sits on the River Teith near Doune in the Highlands, converted from an old cotton mill into a distillery in 1966. It produces an unpeated, naturally characterful single malt known for its soft, honeyed sweetness, creamy texture, and gentle spice. Long fermentation times and a focus on natural production (including non-chill-filtration) give the whisky a wholesome, cereal-rich profile. The distillery is also powered by its own hydroelectric turbine, adding to its reputation for simple, honest, quietly distinctive whisky.
