Craigellachie 18 Years Old 2007 Infrequent Flyers

ABV: 58.6% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled in 2007 at Craigellachie Distillery, renowned for producing a rich, robust Speyside spirit. It has been matured for 18 years, including a 6-year finishing period in a single barrique that previously held Premier Cru Bordeaux wine. The wine cask influence brings layers of ripe fruit, honey, and raisins, adding a soft sweetness that balances beautifully with Craigellachie’s naturally savoury, muscular character.

Bottled at natural cask strength, without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, by Alistair Walker for his Infrequent Flyers Collection.

Nose

There's that funky Craigellachie nose, almost savoury, always interesting, occasionally unusual. A medley of red grapes, and rum raisin ice-cream, with a balsamic glaze.

Palate

Ooft! Amazing red wine/tangy fruit flavours - red plums, cranberries and blood orange. Golden syrup, and a touch of nutmeg.

The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 with the sole purpose of distilling a light, fruity spirit for blending. Like many others, the distillery has changed ownership a few times throughout its life, but production has been steady since its opening, with only a few short closures. However, the style of whisky produced has changed. Nowadays, Craigellachie is known for its bold flavour with oaky and spicy notes. The distillery released the first official single malt in 2014, but the majority of the liquid is still used for blending.
