Adelphi Selection

Craigellachie 12 Years Old 2013

ABV: 54% 70 cL

Distilled in 2013 at Craigellachie, in the village of the same name at the heart of Speyside, this single malt comes from a distillery known for a robust, meaty and waxy spirit, helped along by its traditional worm tub condensers.

Selected and bottled by Adelphi Selection, it was matured for twelve years in a single first fill Oloroso sherry cask.

Oloroso is a rich, dry sherry from Jerez in southern Spain, aged oxidatively so it develops a deep, nutty and dried-fruit character. A first fill Oloroso cask passes plenty of that influence on to the whisky, along with a deeper colour.

Craigellachie's weighty spirit is well suited to sherry wood, and a first fill Oloroso cask makes for a bold pairing of distillery character and cask.

Bottled at 12 years old from cask #27, presented at natural cask strength, natural colour and no chill filtration.

The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 with the sole purpose of distilling a light, fruity spirit for blending. Like many others, the distillery has changed ownership a few times throughout its life, but production has been steady since its opening, with only a few short closures. However, the style of whisky produced has changed. Nowadays, Craigellachie is known for its bold flavour with oaky and spicy notes. The distillery released the first official single malt in 2014, but the majority of the liquid is still used for blending.
