Cane and Grain

Craigellachie 10 Years Old Private Reserve

ABV: 59.3% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled on the 4th of March 2015 at the Craigellachie Distillery, near the village of Craigellachie in the heart of Speyside. Craigellachie is known for its bold, meaty and robust spirit - a heavier, characterful style that stands up beautifully to rich, sweet casks.

It was selected by Cane and Grain for their Private Reserve collection, a range of elusive single casks from across Scotland's whisky regions, each given a secondary maturation in a carefully chosen first-fill cask. This cask was re-racked on the 5th of October 2023 into a single first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead, where it spent 14 months.

The weighty Craigellachie spirit and the luscious PX cask make a natural pairing, with the sherry adding depth and sweetness without hiding the malt's bold character. Cane and Grain describe the result as larger than life - bold malt up front, tempered with a moreish sweetness.

Aged 10 years and drawn from cask number 4260, it is presented at natural cask strength of 59.3% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration. Limited to just 244 bottles.

The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 with the sole purpose of distilling a light, fruity spirit for blending. Like many others, the distillery has changed ownership a few times throughout its life, but production has been steady since its opening, with only a few short closures. However, the style of whisky produced has changed. Nowadays, Craigellachie is known for its bold flavour with oaky and spicy notes. The distillery released the first official single malt in 2014, but the majority of the liquid is still used for blending.
