Adelphi Selection

Chichibu 7 Years Old 2018

ABV: 57.1% 70 cL

Distilled in 2018 at Chichibu, in Saitama Prefecture north-west of Tokyo, this single malt comes from one of Japan's most sought-after craft distilleries. This cask was filled with heavily peated spirit.

Selected and bottled by Adelphi Selection, it was matured for seven years in a single first fill bourbon American Standard Barrel.

An American Standard Barrel is the 200-litre white oak cask used to age bourbon in the United States. On its first fill with whisky it is still very active, typically bringing vanilla, sweetness and spice. Chichibu's hot summers and cold winters mean the spirit works hard with the wood, so seven years delivers plenty of cask influence.

Heavy peat and first fill bourbon oak is a classic pairing, with the sweetness of the barrel balancing the smoke.

Bottled at 7 years old from cask #10074, presented at natural cask strength, natural colour and no chill filtration.

Chichibu, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama Prefecture, is one of Japan’s most influential new-wave distilleries. Despite its small size, it quickly earned a global reputation for richly flavoured whiskies made with meticulous, hands-on craftsmanship. Chichibu uses a variety of cask types, local barley experiments, and traditional floor malting, producing vibrant, youthful spirits with notes of fruit, honey, oak spice, and a touch of herbal depth. Its limited releases are highly sought after, and the distillery is often credited with helping reignite worldwide excitement for Japanese whisky.
