Caol Ila 12 Years Old Tryptych Cask 14375 Madeira Finish

ABV: 57.9% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled in 2013 at the Caol Ila Distillery on the Isle of Islay. It was aged for 12 years, including three months of finishing in a single 1st fill Madeira Octave. It delivers nutty richness and gentle spice, harmoniously balanced with the distillery's signature coastal smoke.

Bottled by Gleann Mòr Spirits for their Rare Find collection in celebration of Feis Ile 2026.

Nose

Opening with the sweet, caramelised aroma of griddled strawberries and the nutty warmth of salted almonds. Hints of ashy smoke and delicate angelica mingle, creating an inviting, yet intriguing nose.

Palate

Rich and mouthcoating, with bold aniseed notes that intertwine with billowing coastal smoke. Layers of zesty lemon tart add both freshness and impact.

Finish

Enduring, with a briny salinity that lingers on the palate. Slowly fading notes of bright lemon merge with persistent phenolic smoke, creating a layered, coastal character.

The name Caol Ila derives from the Gaelic "Caol Ìle", which means "The Sound of Islay". The distillery's journey began in 1846 when it was founded by Hector Henderson. Despite his previous experience at Littlemill, the distillery did not succeed and changed hands in 1854. 9 years later, it was sold again, this time to Bulloch Lade & Co., who expanded production. The distillery faced more changes in ownership and a few closures up to the 1970s when the old buildings were demolished and replaced by larger ones, and additional stills were installed, making it once again the largest distillery on the island. Since 2004, Caol Ila has been a part of Diageo's portfolio, bottling single malts, as well as using the liquid for Johny Walker blends.
It is known for being one of the most delicate whiskies on the island, wich light colour, citrusy flavours and ashy peat.
