Bowmore 22 Years Old

ABV: 52.5% 70 cL

Founded in 1779, Bowmore Distillery has been producing single malts carrying balanced sea salts and delicate peat smoke notes.

This 22 year old Islay single malt, matured for over two decades in a refill barrel, developing remarkable balance and complexity. This dram combines tropical fruit, gentle peat smoke and creamy sweetness, with notes of mango, vanilla and charred oak.

Bottled by Whisky Craft, at natural cask strength, natural colour and no chill filtration. Limited to 265 bottles.

Nose

Smoky BBQ and crisp bacon, with coastal hints and an underlying sweetness of pear drops, fresh pastry and burnt sugar. The smoke is present but not overpowering, sitting alongside sweet barley, tropical fruit, apricot, gentle peat and a delicate hint of fresh-cut flowers.

Palate

Sweet, rounded and creamy, with excellent balance. Medium peat comes through with ripe mango, charred pineapple, single cream and oak spice. The coastal smoke is controlled, allowing the fruit and creamy texture to lead.

Finish

Rich and lingering, with a bold mix of smoke, spice, and subtle sweetness.

The Bowmore Distillery was granted its license to operate in 1779, making it the first legal distillery on the Isle of Islay and the second one in Scotland. However, historical records suggest that the founder of Bowmore, David Simpson, had been distilling in Bowmore for over a decade prior to the granting of the license. Bowmore Distillery survived many ups and downs, but the whisky was produced continuously until 1940 when RAF coastal command commandeered the distillery to help with the efforts. The distillery was reopened soon after. Currently, the Bowmore distillery is part of the Beam Suntory portfolio.
