Living Souls

Bowmore 16 Years Old

ABV: 50% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled at Bowmore Distillery in the village of Bowmore, on the shores of Loch Indaal on the Isle of Islay. Bowmore makes a balanced, gently peated spirit with a distinctly maritime character.

Bottled by independent bottler Living Souls, it was matured for 16 years in refill barrels. Living Souls pairs each release with a scene, and this one takes you to the shores of Loch Indaal, where a lighthouse stands against the horizon and gentle peat smoke drifts on the salty sea air.

Living Souls describes this as an elegant, mature and balanced whisky in which the subtle influence of the refill casks lets the character of this Islay distillery shine.

Aged 16 years and bottled at 50% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration. 70cl.

Nose

Lemon peel, orchard fruits, vanilla and soft coastal smoke.

Palate

The Bowmore Distillery was granted its license to operate in 1779, making it the first legal distillery on the Isle of Islay and the second one in Scotland. However, historical records suggest that the founder of Bowmore, David Simpson, had been distilling in Bowmore for over a decade prior to the granting of the license. Bowmore Distillery survived many ups and downs, but the whisky was produced continuously until 1940 when RAF coastal command commandeered the distillery to help with the efforts. The distillery was reopened soon after. Currently, the Bowmore distillery is part of the Beam Suntory portfolio.
