The Whisky Cellar
ABV: 46.9% 70 cL
This single malt from Blair Athol Distillery has been finished for 9 months in a ex-Marsala cask, giving the whisky lots of sugary-spice and candied fruit character.
MARSALA is a fortified wine produced in or around the city of Marsala on the island of Sicily, Italy and holding Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status since 1969.
Originally known locally as Perpetuum, it was first consumed by English entrepreneur John Woodhouse in 1770, when the vessel he was sailing on ran aground near the city of Marsala and he took refuge in a local tavern, sampling the wines. Immediately sensing the commercial opportunity, modern day sweet Marsala, now enjoyed the world over, was discovered. Barrel ageing in a Solera-style system delivers complex flavours
of caramelized brown sugar and nutty-sweetness.
Only 277 Bottles have been produced
TASTING NOTES:
NOSE: | Caramelised brown sugar, cooked stone fruits, sweetened nuts, exotic spice and a vintage confectionary shop. |
PALATE: | Apricot tart, demerara sugar, vanilla pod, candied walnuts, tamarind pulp and dates. |
FINISH: | Tangy spices, ripe apricots, chilli coated nuts, old leather. |
Tax included.
