Benromach Distillery’s construction began in 1898 and took 2 years to complete. Throughout history, the distillery has gone through many hands and survived two closures, the most recent one in 1983, which lasted 11 years. Benromach was then purchased by the Urquhart family, renovated and reopened by Prince Charles in 1998. They took Benromach back to times when all of the distilleries were using peat in their production process and created the unique combination of Speyside style whisky with delicate peat.
