Benromach Distillery

Benromach 25 Years Old

ABV: 46% 70 cL

Benromach 25 Years Old is a single malt from Benromach Distillery in Forres, on the northern edge of Speyside. Benromach is known for crafting whisky in the classic Speyside style – fruity, rich and rounded – with a gentle wisp of smoke running through it that sets it apart from many of its neighbours.

This new expression joins the 12, 15 and 21 Years Old in Benromach's core range and sits at the very top of it as the pinnacle of the signature line-up. It has been matured exclusively in first-fill Bourbon and Sherry casks, and like the rest of the range it is made by hand, marking a new milestone for the distillery.

First-fill Bourbon casks are American oak barrels that have held bourbon only once before, so they still give plenty of their sweet, vanilla-led character to the spirit. First-fill Sherry casks are European oak casks seasoned with sherry from the bodegas of Jerez in southern Spain, and bring depth, richness and dried-fruit character. Using casks at their first refill means their influence is at its most vivid.

After a quarter of a century, the two cask styles have come together with Benromach's spirit to create a whisky the distillery describes as rich and incredibly well balanced, while keeping the signature hint of smoke the distillery is known for. It is presented in new, gift-ready packaging, making it a special bottle to share or to give.

Aged for 25 years and bottled at 46% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration.

Benromach Distillery’s construction began in 1898 and took 2 years to complete. Throughout history, the distillery has gone through many hands and survived two closures, the most recent one in 1983, which lasted 11 years. Benromach was then purchased by the Urquhart family, renovated and reopened by Prince Charles in 1998. They took Benromach back to times when all of the distilleries were using peat in their production process and created the unique combination of Speyside style whisky with delicate peat.
