Benrinnes 14 Years Old 2012 Infrequent Flyers

ABV: 57.4% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled in 2012 at the Benrinnes Distillery, known for its full-bodied, complex Speyside spirit. Matured for 14 years, the spirit was re-racked into a single Barolo Barrique for the last 3 years and 8 months of ageing, resulting in a balanced malt with notes of ginger snaps, apricots and salted caramel.

Bottled at natural cask strength, without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, by Alistair Walker.

Nose

A tingly aroma of toasted oak with mellow fruit notes - gooseberry, kiwi and nectarine.

Palate

Good depth here. Interestingly the palate moves in a different direction to the nose. There is a touch of sweet, peppery spice there. The predominant characteristics are ginger snaps, apricots and ever-welcome salted caramel.

Benrinnes is situated by the foot of the Ben Rinnes mountain, from which it takes its name. The first destination at the original site occurred in 1826, but only three years later, the distillery was destroyed by flood. It was rebuilt in the new location in 1835. Since then, the distillery has endured changes in ownership, bankruptcies, and even a fire. Today, Benrinnes is part of Diageo's portfolio, with two stills and a capacity of 2.5 million litres per year.
