Thompson Bros.

Benriach 12 Years Old

ABV: 53.7% 70 cL

Distilled in 2013 at Benriach Distillery, nestled near Elgin in Scotland’s renowned Speyside region, this single malt spent 12 years maturing, with the final 21 months in octave casks that had previously housed Dornoch single malt. What began as a cask-finishing experiment proved worthwhile, creating a unique malt with notes of white grapes, honey, ginger and cachaca.

Bottled at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring by Thompson Bros.

LIMITED TO ONE BOTTLE PER CUSTOMER

Nose

Yellow plums, lime zest, beeswax, quite savoury with something distinctly Dornoch-y about it.

Palate

Apricot, white grape and lots of honey. The combination of speyside single malt finished in a Dornoch octave has resulted in something like Clynelish! a worthwhile experiment. You'll also find a touch of cachaca and fresh ginger.

Finish

Slightly saline with ginger spice and grass.

BenRiach Distillery, founded in 1898 by John Duff on the old Riach farm near Elgin in Speyside, is known for its inventive approach to whisky-making, producing characterful unpeated single malts using mineral-rich aquifer water and a wide variety of casks, including bourbon, sherry, wine and virgin oak. After periods of closure and revival, the distillery has become celebrated for its gentle Speyside fruitiness, layers of honeyed and orchard-fruit character, and its commitment to innovative cask maturation, all supported by the continued use of traditional floor maltings and an enduringly experimental spirit.
