Nose

Plum crumble and apricot twists give way to richer Jamaican ginger cake and dark chocolate. (shavings of at least 85% cocoa solids in a Burnsville drinking chocolate tub.)

Palate

Cacao nibs, light tannin, cloves and a full chunk of chocolate but none of these sit heavily. A little lighter than the nose suggests.

Finish

'Well-sherried' mincemeat, musty sandalwood, fresh red peppercorns and almond oil.

The Balmenach distillery was initially operated without a license until 1824 when James MacGregor obtained a license for it. Its original name was Balminoch, which is derived from the Gaelic name ‘Am Baile Meadhnach’, meaning ‘middle farm’. In 1922, the name was changed to Balmenach Glenlivet Distillery Company, and the distillery became a part of Distillers Company Limited. Today Balmenach uses traditional machinery and methods. Most of the liquid produced in Balmenach is used for blends, and the distillery does not have an official single malt offering, but it can be found through independent bottlers.
