Ballechin 16 Years Old 2010 Un-Chillfiltered Collection

ABV: 46% 70 cL

Distilled in 2010, Ballechin is the heavily peated single malt made at Edradour, near Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. Peated to around 50ppm, it is a rare example of a full-on smoky whisky from the Highlands, bringing big peat to a region better known for gentler styles.

Bottled by Signatory Vintage for their Un-Chillfiltered Collection, this release was matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels for 16 years.

Bourbon barrels are made from new American white oak and used once for bourbon before coming to Scotland. A first fill barrel is on its first use for Scotch, so it gives the strongest oak influence, and the smaller barrel size means good contact between spirit and wood.

First fill bourbon wood is a natural partner for heavily peated spirit, letting the smoke stay front and centre while sixteen years in oak round off the edges and add sweetness and depth.

Aged 16 years, distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2026. Bottled at natural colour and no chill filtration.

Edradour is the smallest single-malt whisky distillery in Scotland, located near Pitlochry in the Highlands. Founded in 1825 as Glenforres by a group of local farmers, the distillery was renamed Edradour in 1837, derived from the Gaelic Eadar Dhà Urr, meaning "between two rivers," reflecting its picturesque location.

Over the years, Edradour had had a colourful history, changing ownership multiple times, including a period when it was owned by the New York Mafia. Despite its many changes, the distillery has always stayed true to producing high-quality whisky, with a particular emphasis on sherry cask ageing.
