Finn Thomson

Balblair 12 Years Old #1772

ABV: 54.3% 70 cL

Balblair 12 Years Old single malt Scotch whisky, distilled 5th April 2014 and bottled on 26th June 2026 following a finishing period in a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. Founded in 1790 on a remote hillside overlooking the Dornoch Firth, Balblair is known for long fermentation, slow distillation and a fruity, elegant Highland spirit.

Bright, delicate distillery character meets the rich sweetness of PX wood, bringing layers of dried fruit, luscious sweetness and warming spice. Independent bottlings of Balblair are relatively uncommon, making this first Finn Thomson release a rare chance to discover a less frequently seen side of a classic Highland malt. Bottled by Finn Thomson Whisky as part of the Private Cask Collection at natural cask strength. Limited to 144 bottles.

Balblair Distillery, founded in 1790 by John Ross, lies in the Highland village of Edderton overlooking the Dornoch Firth. It is one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, built on land long associated with the ancient Picts — a standing stone called Clach Biorach still marks the site’s historic past. Rebuilt in the late 19th century near the railway line, Balblair is now owned by Inver House Distillers. The distillery draws its water from the Allt Dearg burn on the Edderton Hills and employs long fermentation and distinctive squat pot stills to create a smooth, fruity new-make spirit. Its whiskies are typically matured in ex-bourbon casks, producing a character known for bright orchard fruit, honey sweetness, and gentle spice, capturing the freshness and purity of its Highland surroundings.
