Aultmore Distillery, founded in 1895 by Alexander Edward near Keith in Banffshire, is a Speyside malt producer renowned for the distinctive purity and finesse of its spirit. Drawing soft, clean water from the Auchinderran Burn and surrounded by the misty landscape of Foggie Moss, Aultmore crafts whiskies known for their fresh, almost ethereal character — light yet complex, with notes of meadow grass, sweet herbs, apple, pear, and gentle citrus. Its spirit is silky and elegant, often described as “morning dew in a glass,” with a soft sweetness and delicate balance rather than oak-heavy richness. The finish is smooth and slightly spicy, leaving a crisp, refined impression. Long used in Dewar’s blends but increasingly celebrated in its own right, Aultmore remains one of Speyside’s most understated distilleries, prized by whisky enthusiasts for its natural, unadorned style.
