Adelphi Selection

Isle of Arran 10 Years Old 2015

ABV: 58.9% 70 cL

Distilled in 2015 at the Arran distillery in Lochranza, on the north of the Isle of Arran, this single malt comes from one of Scotland's island producers, known for a clean, fruity and characterful spirit.

Selected and bottled by Adelphi Selection, it was matured for ten years in a single first fill bourbon American Standard Barrel. The spirit is unpeated, letting the classic Arran distillate do the talking.

An American Standard Barrel is the 200-litre white oak cask used to age bourbon in the United States. Filled with Scotch for the first time, the oak still holds plenty of that bourbon influence, typically bringing vanilla, honeyed sweetness and gentle spice to the whisky.

A decade in a single active bourbon barrel is a great way to taste Arran's fruity house style framed by American oak, without any sherry or wine influence getting in the way.

Bottled at 10 years old from cask #3270, presented at natural cask strength, natural colour and no chill filtration.

The history of distillation on the Isle of Arran is long and rich. Once home distilling became illegal, the islanders went underground and kept supplying the rising demand for the water of life. The Arran distillery in Lochranza, opened in 1995 and is the first legal one since its predecessor, located in Lagg, closed its doors in 1837. Unlike many distilleries on the West Coast and the islands, Arran's whisky does not use peat. Their malt is soft and smooth, with citrus and cereal notes.
