Ardnamurchan Distillery

Ardnamurchan 10 Years Old AD/ White Port Cask Release

ABV: 52%

This single malt comes from the Ardnamurchan Distillery, near Glenbeg on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, overlooking Loch Sunart on the remote west coast of the Scottish Highlands. The distillery is known for its fresh, coastal, maritime style of spirit.

This is the first ever AD/ White Port Cask Release. It was made entirely from unpeated spirit, which was first matured in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in White Port barriques.

White Port is made from white grapes in Portugal's Douro Valley and fortified with grape spirit, like its better-known ruby and tawny cousins. Its styles run from crisp and dry to rich and sweet, and it tends to be lighter and fresher than red Port. Barriques are smaller casks, so the whisky has more contact with the wood, and the finish makes its mark more quickly.

Using unpeated spirit lets the bright, fruity influence of the White Port casks come through clearly. The bourbon barrels lay down a soft, sweet foundation, and the result is a rich and complex dram with a long, gently tannic finish.

Aged for 10 years, this single malt is bottled at 52% ABV, with natural colour and no chill filtration, and is limited to 6,800 bottles.

The Adelphi-owned Arnamurchan Distillery, located on the picturesque peninsula of the same name, was built in 2013. The buildings were designed with sustainability in mind, using renewable energy and recycling as much water and heat as possible. The first liquid to run through the distillery was unpeated, with the peated malt being added a year later. Ardnamurchan produces both peated and unpeated spirits, often combining the two to create a new depth of flavours and unique style.
