Ardmore 12 Years Old 2013 100 Proof #74

ABV: 57.1% 70 cL

Distilled in 2013 at Ardmore, near Kennethmont in rural Aberdeenshire, this single malt comes from one of the few Highland distilleries to make peated spirit as standard, giving a smoky, earthy style with a sweet malty core.

Bottled by Signatory Vintage as edition #74 of their 100 Proof series, the whisky was matured in 2nd fill bourbon barrels that had previously held Islay whisky.

Bourbon barrels are made from new American white oak and used once for bourbon before coming to Scotland. These barrels had then been filled with Islay malt before being used for this Ardmore, so the oak's influence is gentler and the casks may carry a little of the island's coastal, smoky character with them.

Pairing Ardmore's Highland peat with casks that have seen Islay whisky makes for a smoky, layered dram, and the 100 Proof strength gives it plenty of intensity.

Aged 12 years, distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2026. Bottled at 100 UK proof, natural colour and no chill filtration.

Ardmore distillery was founded by Adam Teacher, who decided that the family blending business needed its own supply of malt. The rural Aberdeenshire was the perfect spot, with an abundance of fresh water, a nearby peat source, barley fields and proximity to the train line. The Ardmore is one of the few East Coast distilleries that has never stopped using peat in its distillation process, combining gentle smoke with more fruity and floral notes associated with its region.
