Murray McDavid

Ardmore 10 Years Old Pinot Noir Wine Benchmark

ABV: 53.5% 70 cL

This single malt was distilled at the Ardmore Distillery in Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire, in the Highland region of Scotland. Ardmore is one of the few East Coast distilleries that has never stopped using peat, producing a lightly smoky spirit with the fruity and floral character typical of its region.

For this Benchmark release, Murray McDavid matured the spirit in bourbon hogsheads before finishing it in first-fill Pinot Noir wine casks of French oak from Burgundy. The red wine casks bring a vibrant, fruity depth that pairs naturally with Ardmore's oily, ester-rich spirit and gentle peat smoke, a combination of red wine and peat that is a favourite of Murray McDavid's Whisky Creations Team.

Aged for 10 years and bottled in Autumn 2023, it is presented at natural cask strength of 53.5% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration. Limited to 1,335 bottles.

Ardmore distillery was founded by Adam Teacher, who decided that the family blending business needed its own supply of malt. The rural Aberdeenshire was the perfect spot, with an abundance of fresh water, a nearby peat source, barley fields and proximity to the train line. The Ardmore is one of the few East Coast distilleries that has never stopped using peat in its distillation process, combining gentle smoke with more fruity and floral notes associated with its region.
