Thompson Bros.
ABV: 46.1% 70 cL
This single malt comes from an undisclosed distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. Thompson Bros. have kept its origins under wraps, which is all part of the fun – with no name on the label, you can come to the glass with no expectations and let the whisky speak for itself.
It has been aged for 14 years in total, the last 3 of them in an ex-rum cask, and bottled by Thompson Bros., the independent bottler based in Dornoch in the far north of the Highlands. The label art is by Whiskyhobo.
Ex-rum casks have previously held rum, a spirit distilled from sugar cane juice or molasses and most closely associated with the Caribbean. Rum-seasoned wood can add a sweeter, richer and often tropical edge to a whisky, and three years is a generous stretch of time, giving the cask plenty of opportunity to make its mark.
Thompson Bros. describe the result as rich, dark and sticky, with a big, oily texture and a proper hit of rummy funk sitting alongside the Highland spirit.
Aged 14 years and presented at natural cask strength of 46.1% ABV, natural colour and no chill filtration.
1 BOTTLE PER HOUSEHOLD
Tax included.
