Bowmore was the first licensed distillery on Islay and the second in Scotland. John P Simson established the distillery in 1779. The distillery production was continuous until 1940 when it was commandeered by RAF Coastal Command to help with the war efforts.
Whisky from the Bowmore distillery is known for smoky, a maritime character with sea salt and tropical fruits flavours.
